I have been creating graphic design solutions for the past 10 years professionally, but sometimes I have to pause and ask myself why design? There are days when designing for clients can feel like just a job and others where it can feel like a creative fine art project. Most days designing falls in the middle for me. It is a process as much as a product. It is an exploration of new ideas, new people and new products. I learn something new everyday I design, whether it is a new design or web technique or new people and new ideas. I design because I love to communicate. Visual communication is an exploration of universal communication, when at is simplest purest form, touches the viewer and speaks to them.
I strive to meet and work with clients that see graphic design as more than just a business card, or a website and a tool, but rather as a process to get to work with a stranger that provides a new and unique perspective to their story. That helps them define their story, their style and then in turn communicates that energy with a larger audience. Design is a business tool that will help grow a business and establish a brand, but it should have more personality and soul than just a piece of paper.
Today I am starting a blog exploration of things that inspire me, that invigorate me or that turn me off. My design is a personal expression of myself, my passion and intimate study of the clients that I get the opportunity to work with. Sometimes it surprises me that people don't understand and see design the way that I do. I hope that by sharing my thoughts and process with you that you may grow to appreciate and even love design and art the way I do. Please chime in and give feedback along the way!
Thanks! Steph
